Geocoding
Map Geocoder
What is Geocoding?
Geocoding is the process of converting addresses (like “300 John St Ste 1B, Greer, SC”) into geographic coordinates (like latitude 34.939246 and longitude -82.227005), which is used to place markers on the map.
The Map Geocoder helps convert the addresses of selected Salesforce Object records into their corresponding latitude and longitude coordinates.
When you open the Map Geocoder, you'll see:
- Geocode Limit
- Geocode Used
- Objects Available to Geocode
- Current and Previous Geocode Jobs
Geocode Records Using the Map Geocoder
To geocode existing records:
1. On the map sidebar, click the "Map Geocoder" icon to open the Map Geocoder.
2. In the Map Geocoder, select the object(s) you want to geocode.
3. After selecting the object(s), click "Geocode selected objects".
The geocode job will begin.
The new geocode job will appear at the top of the jobs list, displaying the Job ID, Object, Status, Job Size, Records Processed, Pass/Fail, Created Date, and Options.
To check the current status of the job, click "Refresh Jobs" to update the job status.
When the job is finished, a green "Download to Salesforce" button will appear next to the job under "Options". Click the button to complete the geocode job.
The object records are now geocoded.
