Global OCR

Global OCR is available exclusively to Business Plan subscribers.

The Global OCR feature, available to Business Plan users, enables the processing of business cards and event badges in various languages on their devices, using our Optical Character Recognition (OCR) machine learning algorithm.

When users scan a business card or event badge and move to the OCR results screen, they are presented with several OCR options. The on-device OCR processes the data locally on the device, the AI option utilizes artificial intelligence to map the OCR results, and the Global OCR option leverages a custom machine learning algorithm for improved accuracy.

For most languages, the AI option produces improved OCR results by 20-30% compared to on-device OCR. However, for languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic, the Global OCR feature can offer significantly improved OCR results.

When using the Global OCR feature, it typically takes about 15 seconds to produce results. Therefore, it is recommended to use the AI option for most scans and reserve the Global OCR option for instances where the highest accuracy is required.



Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Supported Languages


Vision-e Scan offers two distinct approaches for OCR services:

  • OCR on the users' phone
  • OCR on our AWS processing service using Abbyy finereader engine combined with our proprietary algorithms.

OCR service on the users phone is provided by Apple and Google's technology. Apple and Google provide support for the following languages:

  • English (en-US)
  • French (fr-FR)
  • Italian (it-IT)
  • German (de-DE)
  • Spanish (es-ES)
  • Portuguese (pt-BR)

Other than these languages, if you are seeking other language support, we would encourage you to try the solution. It has been reported to us by Salesforce customers that their device settings have provided good OCR results beyond the documented supported languages.

Global OCR Option


After scanning a business card or event badge and continuing to the OCR results screen, if enabled, the Global OCR option will be at the top of the screen next to the other OCR options.

Selecting the Global OCR option initiates the OCR mapping process. During this time, a processing message will appear. Processing typically takes around 15 seconds and afterwards, the OCR results will be displayed.

Global OCR provides the OCR results and maps the values to the corresponding fields.



Global OCR Settings in the Scan App


Global OCR is available to subscribers of the Business Pro plan. By default, it is disabled in the Scan app but can be enabled in the App Settings.

To enable Global OCR in the Scan app, follow these steps:

1. Open the Main Menu.

2. Select Settings.

3. Choose App Settings.

4. Toggle on the Global Enterprise OCR option under the App Settings menu.

5. Once you're done, tap "Save" to confirm the change.

Global OCR will be enabled in the Scan app.
